Being a Christian was never supposed to be easy.
In fact, Jesus tells us that in Matthew 11:29-30:
“Take up my yoke and learn from me, because I am lowly and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Notice that Jesus is talking about a fair exchange.
We are to leave our burdens to him, and take his instead. This burden is to follow Jesus, which is never easy. Yet, the consolation prize is eternal life.
Again, the Christian walk is never easy.
You’ll fall over and over again when being tempted by sin. We will always wrestle with sin and fall as we move away from God. It’s up to you to get back up again and renew your relationship with the eternal Father.
You’ll be regularly discouraged when dealing with life, finances, family, and ministry. You’ll even fall victim to sickness and ridicule from others, and you may question if the Lord is on your side.
Remember, God is always waiting and ever patient with his children. If your heart is truly made up in serving Jesus, he’ll rescue you like David.
He’ll restore you like he did Job.
And, he’ll show you everlasting favor and grace like he did for Abraham.
This isn’t a message to make you content with falling. A soldier that constantly falls down and never gets back up is incapable of winning the war against Satan.
However, it’s a reminder that we should go deeper in Christ to avoid falling for the same tricks of the enemy.
If you’re single and wrestling with fornication, tarry for the Holy Spirit and draw nearer to God.
If you’re tempted to curse a person out or lash out violently, go deeper in the word of God and arm yourself against the devil.
If you’re urged to sin in any other capacity, develop a fervent prayer life.
The more connected you are to the Father, the more resistant you’ll be to the advances of Satan.
As it is written in James 4:7-8:
“Therefore, submit to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you“
Get back up again when you fall to temptation and become even stronger each and every day.
This is how you’ll overcome Satan and receive your reward in the end.
“Blessed is the one who endures trials, because when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.”James 1:12 Christian Standard Bible (CSB)
